EVA Air’s cargo revenue continued the uptrend in the first month of 2021, sustaining its growth momentum despite weak passenger traffic.
Cargo revenue soared 150 percent year on year to US$171 million (TW$480.2 million) in January, with cargo yield up 86.2 percent to TW$13.21.
On the passenger side, revenue plummeted 91.9 percent to US$31.1 million (TW$870.2 million) for the first month of the year as restrictive travel measures continued to weigh on travel demand. The Taiwanese carrier reported that passenger yield was up 191 percent to TW$6.67.
Overall, EVA Air saw its total revenue more than halved (down 55.9 percent) to US$214 million (TW$5980 million) compared to January of last year. In an earlier statement, the airline said preparations to expand into cold chain logistics are underway with the expected demand surge for COVID-19 vaccine transport.
