ATRAN Airlines, the express cargo carrier of the Volga-Dnepr Group, has recently accomplished a “complex” air/road transport under of essential spare parts for a porous burner unit from Germany to Russia.
Porous burners are used as an alternative to conventional heat generation for manufacturing and industry applications because of their ability to reduce emissions.
Organised with SIS Logistik under Volga-Dnepr’s Cargo Supermarket concept, the first mile of the multimodal delivery involved trucking of the shipment from Frankfurt to Cologne before loading onto ATRAN’s Boeing 737-400SF for departure at Moscow Vnukovo International Airport (VKO).
To reach the shipment’s final destination in Perm, a Russian city close to the Ural mountain range, the express cargo carrier had to rely on its own trucking services to carry the shipment some 1,154 kilometres from Moscow.
ATRAN said its specialists decided in favour of Volga-Trucks whose experienced team completed internal customs transit and safely delivered the equipment to Perm.
“This is a great example of Volga-Dnepr’s Cargo Supermarket concept in action and the first time we have organized internal customs transit in cooperation with Volga-Trucks. Being experienced in developing various schemes for air freight delivery with the usage of the Group fleet, we are now moving one step further to foster multi-modal transportations using the expertise of the specialists within ATRAN and Volga-Trucks company’, commented Vasiliy Zhukov, Commercial Director of ATRAN Airlines.
Ildar Kamaletdinov, head of sales of Volga-Trucks, meanwhile, said that despite making it look easy, hours of work were clocked in to accomplish the multimodal transportation.
“We have been enhancing our service quality, expanding our fleet and digital capabilities to guarantee fast, reliable and safe trucking options,” he added.
