Chinese ecommerce giant JD has opened its newest automated logistics park in the autonomous region Ningxia in northwest China on 10 June, the company announced in a press release.
The automated warehouse will be mainly used for food, electronics, home appliances, apparel, general merchandise and imported goods and will serve neighboring provinces Qinghai and Gansu.
JD opened a fulfilment center in Yinchuan, Qinghai province in April 2016 and enabled next-day delivery in the city. The company says the new facility in Ningxia, home to China’s Hui Muslim population, will make it possible to do same-day delivery.
Like other similar facilities dubbed ‘Asia No.1’, JD said the logistics facility features a wide application of automated devices, including robots and smart management systems for storage, sorting, packing and transportation.
“Asia No. 1 logistics parks are the most advanced and highly automated in JD’s network. There are more than 30 of such facilities across China, which not only speed up delivery but also help drive local employment. The facility in Ningxia is expected to create more than 1,000 local jobs,” the company expressed in a statement.
In related news, JD hosted key opinion leaders from around the globe to its Beijing logistics centre as it showcased the latest advancements and tech in the logistics and warehouse space. It currently has 330 automated guided vehicles doing the pick up and transfer in the facility. At its Shanghai logistics park, the company can handle as many as 1.3 million orders a day thanks to such advanced technologies.
