GEODIS to Open New Multi-User Facility in Luhari to Seize Strong Growth Opportunities in India’s Retail Supply Chain

Geodis is looking to enhance its contract logistics capabilities in India with the planned launch of a multi-user facility in Luhari, Haryana, slated to open in March next year.

The move comes amidst India’s e-commerce boom which has seen an unprecedented demand for contract logistics offerings, particularly advanced warehousing solutions for retailers.

“The shift towards online shopping and omnichannel platforms, accelerated by the pandemic, has compelled retailers to seek logistics operators who can provide the sheer capacity to manage large merchandise inventory, along with the necessary tools to ensure both real-time and end-to-end visibility,” Geodis noted.

The 26,654-sqm warehouse, located in Luhari, Haryana, 60 kilometres north of Delhi, will be on lease from logistics property group LOGOS for a 10-year period and will have a state-of-the-art storage system. It will be equipped with both selective and very narrow aisle (VNA) pallet racks to ramp up order processing procedures for both retailers and e-commerce customers.

The logistics estate is strategically located within proximity to other large industrial clusters, including Bawal, Bhiwadi, and Dharuhera, as well as the Gurugram and Delhi central business districts, plus the International Airport and National Highway 48. This makes it a ‘prime spot’ for manufacturers and retailers alike establishing their footprint in New Delhi and Northern India.

“The new facility in the LOGOS Luhari Logistics Estate ushers in a new era for GEODIS’ contract logistics capabilities and reinforces the company’s commitment to being a strategic growth partner for our retail and e-commerce customers,” said Lakshmanan Venkateswaran, subregional managing director for South Asia at Geodis.

“We look forward to unveiling the facility and its potential to strengthen both our own and our partners’ presence in an industry that is currently undergoing a great deal of change,” he added.

Logos, considered one of Asia Pacific’s top logistics property groups, said this is the first partnership between the two companies, and the company is committed to supporting the forwarder’s real estate needs throughout India and Asia.

Payload Asia learned that Logos has more than 5 million square feet of logistics assets operational and under construction in the National Capital Region, Bengaluru and Chennai. It also has a development pipeline comprising 12 million square feet across these cities—plus Pune, Kolkata and Mumbai.

In September, the company said it leased a million square feet of space to Amazon India in its new warehouse facility at the Devanahalli Industrial and Logistics Park in north Bengaluru. The deal is considered one of the largest warehouse lease transactions in the country, with the 20-year-long lease tenure amounting to a rental outflow of over $100 million.
