Indonesian-registered, Sriwijaya Air commenced flight operations at Singapore Changi Airport¡¯s Terminal 2 this week with 14 weekly scheduled flights between Singapore and Jakarta. Established in 2003, Sriwijaya operates a fleet of 14 B737-200s, three B737-300s and one B737-400. With the addition of Sriwijaya Air, there are now a total of 11 airlines operating a total of 634 weekly scheduled flights between Singapore and 13 cities in Indonesia. ¡°Despite the global economic downturn, air traffic between Singapore and Indonesia continued to grow last year. “Total passenger movements between the two countries hit a record of over 4.1 million in 2008, registering an increase of 6.5 per cent over 2007¡¯s passenger traffic,” said Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore director-general and CEO, Lim Kim Choon.
