India’s central government has recently announced a draft policy for airport and related infrastructure development in the country.
The policy provides guidelines for State governments, private investors and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) regarding the estimated US$10.1 billion required to construct the necessary infrastructure. Emphasising the public-private partnership (PPP) model for the construction of airport infrastructure, the draft policy proposes to dispense with mandatory Central government approvals for all greenfield airport projects, except in special cases.
