Last week DSV introduced three new intercontinental routes to its air charter network , including a weekly Chicago to Shanghai roundtrip starting 1 March.

The company is responding to accommodate capacity despite the lack of it in a tight air freight market due to the pandemic.

On 21 February a weekly scheduled charter from Luxembourg to Sao Paulo was launched to offer 100 tonnes of capacity between Europe and Brazil, and a Chicago to Shanghai roundtrip with the same payload from Rockford Airport was started yesterday. A third route commencing 1 April will see four weekly services between Luxembourg and Johannesburg with a combined capacity of 150 tonnes.

The forwarder’s air charter network is managed in-house and includes road freight services to and from the airport, document handling, freight handling and planning for loading air freight units (ULDs).

“We know a lot of customers struggle with a tremendous amount of uncertainty and a general lack of capacity. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continue to provide new solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic for them,” says Mads Ravn, head of global air freight procurement at DSV.

“We see cargo congestion at both sea ports and airports around the world, hence it’s crucial that we seek to find alternative solutions. I am very pleased that we keep expanding our international air charter services. The aim is to offer more flexibility and security of cargo freight which is crucial and sought after by our many customers,” he added.
