Shanghai-based China EasternAirlines and Shanghai Airlines haveboth denied reports that they areplanning to merge. Several domesticpress reports this week claimed thatthe two are already in negotiationsthat were initiated by China Eastern’scontrolling stakeholder (the State-ownedAssets Supervision and AdministrationCommission) and the arm of theShanghai Municipal Government thatcontrols SAL. CEA said in a statementreleased yesterday that it has never heldany talks or negotiations with any othercarriers save Singapore Airlines.
