June sees highest growth in 14 months: IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight demand in June 2016 showing a rise in freight tonne kilometers (FTK) of 4.3 per cent year-on-year - the fastest pace of growth in 14 months. Providing some welcome relief from the relentless bad news since the start of 2016, recent statistics from WorldACD indicate the air cargo business picked up in June with worldwide chargeable weight improving by 2.7 per cent year-on-year (YoY). Qatar Airways bumps up stake in IAG to 20%
Qatar Airways has announced that it now holds a 20.01 per cent stake in International Airlines Group (IAG) effective from 28 July. This follows a 12 July statement that it held, at that time, a 15.67 per cent shareholding in IAG, reiterating that it might consider increasing its stake further within the allowable limits. SQ Cargo sees widening loss on plummeting yields
Singapore Airlines (SIA) Cargo has seen revenues fall and operating losses deepen on the back of a double-digit yield decline. During its financial first quarter ending 30 June, SIA Cargo saw revenues decline by S$60 million (US$44.8 million), while its operating result slipped to a loss of $34 million compared with S$9.0 million loss a year earlier.
