Changi restores connectivity as cargo dips in 2022
Cargo flows at Singapore Changi Airport dipped slightly in 2022 no thanks to global economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures. Airfreight throughput was down 4.8 percent year on year at 1.85 million tonnes. The Dutch aviation community is expanding its sustainability efforts on the ground as airport operator Royal Schiphol partnered with Neste distributor EG Group to introduce renewable diesel for ground support and equipment. Hong Kong’s cargo volume slumped 16.4 percent in 2022 no thanks to the impact of global economic uncertainties, geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. Liege Airport saw a ‘contrasted’ 2022 as the cargo airport saw freight demand fall whilst passenger numbers increased no thanks to the double whammy brought about by Covid and Ukraine conflict. 1.14 million tonnes of freight transited through the Belgian air hub, a 19 percent drop compared to figures seen in 2021. Air cargo reaped the benefits from a 'traffic boom' at Munich Airport last year as air freight volume increased by 55 percent from 2021 to around 259,000 metric tonnes.
