Vietnam Airlines to restart international routes from mid-July

Vietnam Airlines is set to resume several routes connecting to destinations in Asia, Europe, and Australia from mid-July to end-October.

Vietnam Airlines is set to resume several routes connecting to destinations in Asia, Europe, and Australia from mid-July to end-October, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The national flag carrier said the resumption comes with as passenger demand picks up, particularly residents and students wishing to continue working and learning in other countries, alongside foreign experts coming to work in Vietnam.

The airline is also looking to capitalise on these international passenger flights to transport cargo to optimise its resources and increase revenue amidst the difficulties caused by the pandemic.

Vietnam Airlines is set to resume two routes linking Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) with Australia, restarting Sydney (SYD) from July 15 to October 30 and Melbourne (MEL) from July 20 to October 30.

For Europe, flights from Hanoi (HAN) to Frankfurt (FRA) are scheduled for July 25, July 28, and Aug 21 whilst services from Hanoi (HAN) to London are slated for August 13 and September 2, both with return trips to HAN.

Elsewhere in Asia, the airline will resume its Hanoi-Tokyo flights from July 17 to October 30, slated every Wednesday and Saturday. From August 1 to October 30, it will open a route between SGN and Bangkok (BKK) every Wednesday and another between Tokyo and SGN every Thursday.

Vietnam Airlines said all international flights from mid-July to end-October will utilise its wide-body Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s.

The restarted international flights should add more capacity as air freight demand from Southeast Asia picks up, particularly in markets like Hanoi, according to Flexport’s air freight market update for week 27.

Vietnam Airlines said it will continue expanding the network of international routes and is ready to operate round trip flights, in view of widespread vaccinations and border re-openings initiated in many countries.
