Emirates SkyCargo and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to streamline processes for the transport of dangerous or hazardous goods.

The two entities will work together to “proactively share information on certain classes of dangerous goods booked for transport” on the airline through Dubai. The agreement also aims to develop an approval process for transporting such cargo for better efficiency and to reducing wait times.

The carrier said this will complement the information provided in the dangerous goods declaration (DGD) submitted to the aviation authority. This form certifies that the cargo has been packed, labeled and declared according to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), which consignors are required to prepare. IATA’s manual is the only standard recognised by airlines for shipping dangerous goods.

The move will make it easier for Emirates’ customers such as air freight agents to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for transporting hazardous shipments. DCAA said it has issued over 26,090 NOCs through its system between 2018 and 2020.
