AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) relied on its 30 years of experience in oversized and superheavy air cargo transport in masterminding the delivery of 16-metre-long special cargo from Frankfurt to Zhengzhou.
Weighing almost 16 tonnes, ABC says the cargo equipment was bound for a power transmission project in China.
The Russian carrier partnered with TVS SCS and Pan Asia Logistics Germany to load the shipment onboard Boeing 747-8F—through the nose.
The Boeing 747-8F’s nose–loading feature allowed for single-piece transport without dismantling equipment, cutting the loading time and risks involved in doing installation on site, the carrier noted.
Nikolay Glushnev, general director of AirBridgeCargo, said, “Every time we are entrusted to ship out-of-gauge cargo we feel privileged for gaining unique competences from our Volga-Dnepr’s colleagues as well as building a dedicated abc XL team capable to handle any logistics challenge... Our nose-door loading capability guarantees speed and safety of the whole process and has been so far applied for more than 10 percent of all XL shipments during the first 8 months of 2020”.
ABC tackles logistics challenges thanks to its massive history data with calculations, database of ‘standard’ off–sized equipment (e.g., aircraft engines), sophisticated IT tools for 3D modelling, and regular industry trainings.
