This month we’re rounding up global industry updates every week (instead of the monthly usual update) and publishing the shots for late Sunday, early Monday reading to keep everyone abreast of what’s happening on a weekly basis. We wrap up week 09 and week 08 with new appointments and some company updates.

Steve Allen to lead dnata’s global operations
Steve Allen was recently named by Emirates as the new executive vice president of dnata. The former divisional senior vice president from 2016 will lead the services provider’s global operations, including ground handling, catering and travel. He will also manage associated businesses in aviation, travel and leisure, including MMI, Emirates CAE Flight Training and Premier Inn.

Emirates SkyCargo gallops to strong 2020
Emirates SkyCargo continues to extend its position in the air transport of champion horses after operating three charter flights from Los Angeles and Miami to Riyadh in February for Saudi Cup 2021. The carrier said it has transported more than 1,100 horses since April 2020 and will also be involved during race season in Dubai, using a mix of scheduled full freighter flights and charter flights.

LATAM orders B767-300ER conversions for cargo
LATAM Airlines is expanding its cargo operations with the conversion of up to eight B767-300ER into freighters in the next three years. The plan will be executed in two stages and is expected to increase capacity by 80 percent. The first phase is based on four confirmed conversion slots between 2021 and 2022, whilst the second phase includes four conversion options between 2022 and 2023.

Australian Airlines and time:matters reach 100th cargo flight
Austrian Airlines and time:matters marked the 100th cargo flight with special livery on its converted B777 cargo aircraft (OE-LPA). The tandem have been providing airlift from Asia to Austria and German for relief supplies like gloves, masks and suits since March last year, and now breached the 2,000 tonne mark. The carrier has seen some 100 cargo flights from Xiamen, Shanghai and Penang to Europe.

SASI opens office in Florida

Strategic Aviation Solutions International (SASI) has confirmed the expansion of its global network by investing in a new Florida office. “With a heavy emphasis on airport facility development, data and cargo systems and SASI Training, the investment is particularly relevant and needed in this time of rapid change in the air logistics market,” said Stan Wraight, president and CEO.

Topcast names VP for global sales and customer support
Aircraft parts distributor Topcast has named George Poh as new VP for global sales and customer support. George, who started his career with Honeywell, has worked his way to the top to land executive posts with the likes of Meggitt, Liebherr Aerospace, StandardAero, and Norddam.
