Ground-handling services provider Saudi Arabian Logistics (SAL) has started operations at customs security areas for most of the Kingdom’s airports, a press release revealed, as part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Customs and the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NDLP), under the patronage of Prince Muhammad bin Salman.
The MoU follows SAL’s successful operation at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh last December 2019.
According to the agreement, the ground-handling and logistic services provider will operate the designated areas starting 1 September, whilst Saudi Customs will continue its customs, security and supervision services.
Saudi Arabian Logistics will cover main airports including King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, King Fahad International Airport in Dammam, Prince Muhammad bin Abdulziz International Airport in Madinah, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Tabuk, Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Qassim, as well as Taif International Airport and Abha International Airport.
SAL said the new procedure is expected to reduce the time of import operations, improve the efficiency of cargo clearance and security process, increase the storage capacity, facilitate the cargo acceptance and delivery procedures, and enhance full coordination between both parties to offer services in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to turn the country into an international leading logistic hub.
Saudi Arabian Logistics, a member of the Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation, provides ground-handling services to different local and international airliners across the Kingdom’s airports. Its logistics activities include offering support and supply solutions to all modes of transport and linking them to airports.
