Wuhan-based Uni-Top Airlines is set to take delivery of its first of seven A300- 600F, currently undergoing conversion with EADS Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EADS EFW) in Dresden, Germany. The first freighter, with a payload capacity of 48 tonnes, will be deployed on flights from Shanghai Pudong to Seoul Incheon, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Osaka Kansai. The carrier said in a statement it expects conversion of all seven aircraft – which it acquired from China Eastern Airlines in 2013 – by April of 2016.
Uni-Top Airlines currently operates three B747- 200Fs serving New Delhi and Chennai in India, out of Wuhan Tianhe International Airport and has branches and cargo consolidation sites in six cities: Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Daying and Yiwu.
In December 2014, Uni-Top Airlines has completed its purchase of a 51 per cent stake in GrandStar Cargo International Airlines, based in Tianjin which was to be liquidated. Although it has acquired GrandStar’s significant debt burden, Uni-Top plans to use Grand Star’s traffic rights to expand its own profitable business to include additional destinations in Europe and the US. As part of the transaction, Uni-Top also acquired GrandStar’s B747-400F, currently in storage at Beijing Capital Airport.
