Looking back on the year with pride

As we look back at the past year, it is safe to say that 2017 is a year that the industry as a whole will be able to remember and regard with pride. Cargo demands have remained strong throughout most of the year, with demand growth continuing to outstrip capacity growth, which proved positive for load factors, yields and financial performance. Although several indicators show the industry may have passed the peak of its growth period, volumes are still expected to grow in 2018, albeit at a slower pace.
During the Payload Asia Conference, some very clear themes emerged to us, including that of the apparent need for transparency and how it is an essential component in moving the industry away from being as fragmented as it currently is; and establishing the groundwork to completely do away with paper. The acceptance, adoption and implementation of various new technologies will make way for new and interesting practices that should, in turn, boost new ideas and form new activities to meet the ever-growing customer demands. For some, it will be intriguing to watch disruptors such as drone technology take centre stage, and possibly evolve into becoming an integral part of the supply chain.
Coming back to this latest issue of Payload Asia, we speak to the Head of Cargo at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on initiatives the airport will be focusing on in the new year. We also spoke with and received updates from Cargo Ground Handlers on their achievements from 2017, and what they have in store for the industry in the year to come, completing this months supplement.
As the year draws to an end, we at Payload Asia would like to take this opportunity to reminisce about all that we are grateful for, and at the top of the list is our relationship with you. To all our readers, subscribers, clients and partners, Thank You for providing us with the opportunity to keep bringing you the latest news and information. We wish you all Happy Holidays and much success in 2018!
