Government representatives from India and Iran have struck a new air services agreement for carriers of the two countries. Iranian carriers are entitled to operate a total of 23 passenger/ combination services per week in each direction, with an aircraft not exceeding the capacity of B747. Approved destinations include Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin and Amritsar.
Indian airlines meanwhile, are similarly entitled to 23 flights and in addition can operate any number of all-cargo services to and via Iranian destinations with full 3rd, 4th and 5th freedom traffic rights.
Th e deal also gives India 5th freedom rights via any two points of their choice on flights operated to/from Tehran and Bandar Abbas, and beyond 5th freedom traffic rights only on flights operated to/from Tehran.
Similarly, Iran gains 5th freedom rights via any two points of their choice (except points in the Persian Gulf) on flights operated to/from Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin and Amritsar, and beyond 5th freedom traffic rights only on flights operated to/from Mumbai.
