China Southern Cargo has put its ninth B777-200 freighter into operation, adding transportation capacity during 2015 Chinese Spring Festival. The added capacity has enabled China Southern to increase the frequency of two allcargo freighter routes: PVG-LAX and PVG-ORD to six weekly services each, increasing the carrier’s capacity from East China to US by 50 per cent to 1,080 tonnes a week.
By July of this year, China Southern will take delivery of three more new B777-200 freighters that will take China Southern’s B777 fleet to twelve, substantially boosting its maindeck capacity. The additional capacity will mainly be used as additional frequency from Guangzhou or Shanghai to Europe or the US, but will also see the launch of new destinations like Paris and London, in order to connect the existing passenger routes Guangzhou-Paris and Guangzhou-London. The carrier will also up its maindeck connections to the ‘hot’ cargo markets domestically.
At present, China Southern Cargo has three freighter destinations in North America – Chicago, Los Angeles and Vancouver – alongside its passenger services Guangzhou-New York and Guangzhou-Wuhan-San Francisco brining the total North American destinations to five.
Aside from this broad network coverage of key North American gateways, China Southern offers road feeder service to more than 90 cities in North American such as Atlanta, Boston, Portland, Seattle and Toronto – including 20 cities that can be reached within one day.
