Emirates Skycargo has bolstered operations on its African trade route network with the introduction of a weekly freighter service to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Confirming what was reported in December by Dutch press, Erik Varwijk, managing director of Air France-KLM Cargo has resigned, effective 1 March after 25 years at the carrier. In a statement Varwijk said: “I have decided that I will not be available for reappointment at the end of my current term on 1 July. Japan Airlines (JAL) reported a 3.1 per cent YoY drop in group net profit for the first three quarters of fiscal 2014, to 119.684 billion yen (US$1.01 billion), despite a nearly double-digit rise in international cargo revenue. Reuters reported that German carmaker BMW and car supplier Bosch would join Deutsche Bahn in two claims for about 2.1 billion euros (US$2.4 billion) in damages from air freight carriers involved in a cartel.
