Volumes continue positive growth at HKIA

Hong Kong International Airport saw cargo volumes rise 6.2 per cent last month, compared with a year earlier, while flight movements increased 15.5 per cent year-on-year to a monthly high of 28,140 tonnes.

"The growth in cargo tonnage was attributed primarily to the seven and eight per cent growth in exports and transhipment, while imports grew by 4 per cent in March," said HKIA. "Cargo to and from North America continued its strong momentum, with double-digit year-on-year growth."

In the first quarter of 2011, cargo volumes at the airport rose 4.3 per cent to 944,000 tonnes, while flight movements jumped 14 per cent to 79,845.
