The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) have signed an agreement on a new ICAO/FIATA Dangerous Goods by Air training programme.
The two organisations are looking at extending their partnership to include air cargo security and to establish a related programme for freight forwarders in the near future.
'This is an important collaboration for FIATA and the industry' said Jean-Claude Delen, FIATA's president. 'We will now be offering a training programme to our members backed by ICAO's vast
technical knowledge and regulatory experience. Our entire freight forwarder membership will benefit from this development, especially in such a critical area as the safe transport of dangerous goods by air.'
Raymond Benjamin, secretary general of ICAO, added: 'This is an extremely important initiative for enhancing the safety of the global air transport system. Freight Forwarders account for a large segment of all shipments transported by air and constitute a critical element for strengthening the air cargo supply chain around the world.'
