Continuous five-month growth at AAT

Hong Kong’s Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced that its tonnage throughput in May 2010 was 64,041 tonnes, recording a growth of 73 per cent compared with the same period last year. Export cargo registered 45,994 tonnes, a growth of 95 per cent when compared with the same month last year. Import cargo volume for May was 17,486 tonnes, up 36 per cent. Transhipment cargo volume was 561 tonnes, a growth of two per cent when compared against corresponding period in 2009.

Cumulative export tonnage from January to May 2010 was 191,190 tones, representing a 66 per cent year on year growth. Total import tonnage for first five months increased by 23 per cent compared against same period last year, to 77,749 tonnes. Transshipment cargo volume since the beginning of the year was 1,939 tonnes, up three per cent against same period last year.

AAT general manager for Corporate Development, Nelson Lee said: “The continuous growth in these five months reaffirms sustainable recovery. Nevertheless, it may be prudent to watch at the same time the ripple effect of financial problems in some EU countries.”
