Bangladesh’s exports slowed by equipment

Bangladesh freight forwarders are demanding an improvement in scanning at the country’s main Dhaka airport. Inadequate scanning machines at Dhaka’s Export Cargo Village – where it is mandatory to security scan all shipments before handing over to airlines – results in delays of up to two days and requires the breakdown of pallets and even large boxes. Damage and missing items are common as a result of this breakdown and repacking.

The solution, say forwarders, is to immediately increase the number of scanning machines and placing modern ULD scanning machines at Biman Cargo Village where nearly 4,000 tonnes of shipments are uplifted every week.

The Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) has assured its members that the matter will be raised in discussion with both the Civil Aviation authority and Biman Airlines.
