Belly Ache - Payload Asia March 2010 Issue

Mile-high luxury

Now that prudish Singapore Airlines has publicly admonished its first class passengers to behave themselves while in the relative privacy of the private suites onboard the airline’s A380s, those seeking to join the ‘mile-high club’ have had to fulfill their membership qualifications elsewhere.

Well fret no longer, no need to attempt amorous acrobatics in the confines of the onboard lavatories, because the Hotelicopter, the world’s first flying hotel, is here!

According to the advertising: “The Hotelicopter features 18 luxuriouslyappointed rooms for adrenaline junkies seeking a truly unique and memorable travel experience.” We’re not quite sure about the adrenaline junkie part, but it does sound unique.

Each soundproofed room is equipped with a queen-sized bed, fine linens, a minibar, coffee machine, wireless internet access, and “all the luxurious appointments you’d expect from a flying five-star hotel. Room service is available one hour after liftoff and prior to landing.” The Hotelicopter is due to fly its maiden journey this June for an undisclosed price.

But based on the fact that the Hotelicopter looks awfully similar to a Sovietmade Mil V-12 helicopter – the largest helicopter ever conceived – but which only existed as two prototypes, we think this could be...err, a bit suspicious?! Ya think?
