Belly Ache - Payload Asia June 2009 Issue

Premature Demolition

Here’s an item that while not related in any way to aviation, will hopefully take your minds off all the bad news floating about, although the Belly Achers’ consensus is that this is a bit of sad story too!

Love Land, China’s first sexually explicit theme park was set to open in October in the south-western city of Chongqing. But even the best laid plans go astray. A number of complaints from local residents provoked red-faced Chongqing officials - who called the planned park “vulgar, ill-minded and misleading” - to order the park torn down.

The park manager, Lu Xiaoqing said Love Land was inspired by South Korea’s popular sex theme park in Jeju and was aimed at improving sex education and helping adults enjoy a “harmonious sex life”. Inside, visitors were to be able to view naked human sculptures, giant replicas of genitals and an exhibition about the history of sex and sexual practices in other countries. He added that the park was to also offer sex technique workshops and advise on anti-Aids measures and using condoms properly.

We’re not quite sure what the park’s downfall was - the giant genitalia, the super human sized torso of a woman in nothing more than a Ferrari-red T-back, or maybe those nefarious ‘workshops’?

Who knows, but suffice to say, Chongqing lost the tourist attraction of the century!
