Belly Ache - Payload Asia June 2009 Issue

Alcoholics Anonymous?

Here at Belly Ache Central, we’re guessing that AA doesn’t stand for Alcoholics Anonymous! At least not in the case of yet another pilot who had ‘one too many’ before boarding flight AA87 from London Heathrow toChicago.

The 57-year old, un-named pilot was arrested for failing a breathalyser test just before he was due to fly an American Airlines jet to Chicago with 204 passengers aboard. Police had been alerted by concerned airport security staff . Kudos to the security staff who like their counterparts around the world, are probably a bit human relations challenged, but make up for it by being decidedly brilliant at detecting the overly-salubrious in the crowd! Hope they don’t spot any Belly Achers next time.

And the moral of the story, at least as far as we see it in our warped little world, is that Aeroflot, which has had its fair share of tippling pilots in recent months, should rest easy as clearly they’re not the only ones who are driving their pilots to drink!
