About Payload Asia

Now in its 25th year of publication, Payload Asia continues to be the authoritative source for informative, accurate and up-to-date news and information on the air cargo industry and related sectors. With its updated and refreshed look the print edition continues to provide high quality coverage on the Asia-Pacific, India-Middle East, Europe-CIS, North & South America and Africa air cargo markets. Additionally, a far reaching revamp of the www.payloadasia.com website provides updated news and a searchable archive to keep our readers abreast of this rapidly changing environment. A popular weekly e-newsletter also provides a timely and convenient snapshot of the latest industry developments.

Established in 1984, Payload Asia continues to be the respected industry voice of the air freight industry in the Asia-Pacific and India-Middle East regions. With experienced air cargo correspondents around the world reporting to the publication’s editor based in Singapore, Payload Asia’s breadth and depth of news and analysis of industry developments and trends from an Asian regional perspective is unparalleled. Alongside Singapore-based editor Donald Urquhart is his team of regularly contributing specialists: Wong Joon San in Hong Kong, Manfred Singh in Mumbai, Peter Conway in the UK, Hiener Siegmund in Germany and Karen E. Thuermer in the US, as well as a handful of ad hoc contributors around the globe.

In 2010, Payload Asia will continue its tradition of editorial excellence, independence and topical relevance with a host of cover stories, features, profiles and supplements alongside the extensive news updates, exploring the issues of vital importance to the air cargo industry and its multifarious players. Continually adapting to the ever-more rapidly changing air cargo industry, Payload Asia has added new subject areas aimed at providing our readers with the very best editorial content possible. Starting from last year we added a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) section and annual supplement in response to the growing development of the MRO business across the greater Asian region. Also from late last year we began an ad hoc

Personality feature, focusing on interesting and notable individuals from within the industry. And with the growing importance of environmental issues, Payload Asia has for the past two years featured the environment as a cover story and because of its multiplicity of issues, we have scheduled it as supplement in the 2010 calendar in order to give it a more thorough coverage.

Likewise, security has become a domineering topic amongst the air cargo industry and this year we will focus on it with a cover story in July, one month ahead of the US government’s mandate for 100 per cent screening of air cargo carried in the bellies of passenger aircraft. Boeing’s re-engineered 747-8 freighter is set to give the industry a well-needed tail wind when it takes off later in the year and as such we’ve devoted a cover story slot to it in the November issue. Another new topic area – leasing and financing – has been given pride-of-place on the cover of the March issue as more and more carriers find alternative ownership models, like sale and lease-back, a more viable means of focusing on their core business.

In the Profile section, new up-and-coming players in the industry, like Australian-based logistics player Toll, Indian carrier Jet Airways and Malaysian-based Air Asia are included along with more traditional industry players, reflecting the evolving industry. Each issue will of course continue with its coverage of key industry segments including: Express and mail, logistics, ground handling, airports, technology and equipment and so on. And for the devout fans of the humour page known as Belly Ache, fear not as this page will undoubtedly out-live us all.

It all adds up to an exciting integrated print and electronic platform for discerning executives, managers and industry participants keen on staying abreast of the latest industry developments and for those companies wishing to reach out to this dynamic industry by raising their profile through advertisements in the print edition and electronically in the e-newsletter and on the website.
