Air Mandalay, which suspended operations last December due to a lack of spares for its aircraft, is to resume flying as a charter operator, its CEO announced recently. U Sai Kham Park Hpa told Th e Myanmar Times that the airline had acquired two ERJ-145 aircraft and looked forward to announcing scheduled flights soon.

“We will launch a schedule and details of our future plans soon, but no date has been set yet,” he said, pointing to prohibitively high import taxes as the reason for the delay in returning to scheduled services. Th e CEO added that the airline had managed to reach a deal with the customs department on taxes for the aircraft, which have been leased rather than purchased.
