AEI reaches B737-400SF milestone

Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is recently announced the delivery of its 50th B737-400SF 11 pallet position freighter conversion.

The aircraft built in 1992 (MSN 26437) is a high gross weight B737-400 and was delivered to Ypsilanti, Michigan based Kalitta Charters. “This represents an important milestone in AEI’s freighter conversion history,” said Robert Convey, senior VP of sales & marketing at AEI, who added that while orders continue to remain strong as AEI has another 15 B737-400SF freighters on order for this year, feedstock for the 737-400 which is AEI’s leading conversion product is suffering from available feedstock. He added that the situation for the MD80 and 733 are okay for the next few years.

According to Convey, the AEI B737- 400SF is the only passenger-to-freighter conversion product that offers operators ten full height 88” x 125” container positions. This unique capability is achievable due to AEI’s Main Deck Cargo Door location which is approximately 40” further back than the competition. “The additional container position increases AEI’s volumetric carrying capability by 10 per cent which places the freighter in a class by itself,” he added.

Over the long term, AEI is forecasting a demand of 25 to 30 conversions of all types of per year for the next five years. This Convey says, is being driven mainly by replacement with some new growth.
