Etihad Airways has once more increased its stake in Virgin Australia, roughly a month after the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) gave it the greenlight to boost its shareholding past the 22.9 per cent threshold.

Etihad Airways has once more increased its stake in Virgin Australia, roughly a month after the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) gave it the greenlight to boost its shareholding past the 22.9 per cent threshold. A filing with the Australian Securities Exchange shows that following the acquisition of 45.8 million ordinary shares valued at A$22.2 million (US$17.5 million), the Emirati carrier now holds a 24.2 per cent stake in the Australian airline. Etihad is now the second largest shareholder in Virgin behind Air New Zealand with 25 per cent while other major shareholders include Singapore Airlines with 23 per cent and Virgin Group with 10 per cent.
