Air China cancels Hahn B777F service

The Chinese national carrier, Air China has ceased operations of its threetimes weekly B777F operations through Hahn airport in late-December after only beginning the service last September.

There had been an expectation that the service would build to a daily service, as part of Air China’s round-the-world service from Shanghai and including either New York or Chicago before passing through Hahn on the way back to Shanghai.

According to a statement from Hahn airport, the decision to stop the service was due to “instrument landing restrictions” for the pilots operating the aircraft as Air China’s B777F pilots do not yet have the necessary experience to land in CAT 3 conditions and so far only hold CAT 1 landing licenses.
