9 Air begins services China’s latest LCC

Start-up low cost carrier (LCC), 9 Air – a subsidiary of Shanghai (Hongqiao and Pudong) based Juneyao Airlines – has launched services from its Guangzhou hub with a single daily Guangzhou-Wenzhou-Harbin service. It had been operating charter flights prior to the 15 January launch to Zhanjiang. The carrier, which has a fleet of two B737s with plans to increase to three, is licensed by China’s aviation regulator to operate both passenger and cargo flights. The new service puts it in direct competition with China Southern and Shenzhen which both have southern China as a focus, while China Eastern and its Shanghai Airlines unit focus on eastern China.
