Leipzig/Halle Airport

Industry Choice Award – European Airport of the Year

CEO Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding Markus Kopp

Meaning…

“Asia is one of the most important target markets when it comes to the development of our international cargo network. Over the last couple of years we built up a unique international cooperation network which includes four Asian airports. We are jointly working on the expansion of existing air freight routes and the development of new ones. The Payload Asia Award therefore is a very special recognition for our achievements in that region.”

Value…

“We very much appreciate the prize, especially since it was awarded to us by a panel of representatives from across the industry and assessed via a transparent point-based system. The award reflects the ongoing positive development of Leipzig/Halle Airport which has been growing significantly for ten years in a row now in terms of cargo volumes. In November, we achieved a tonnage growth of seven per cent year-on-year and therefore performed clearly above average.

“In general, award ceremonies like this call attention to emerging companies and outstanding developments in the industry which might inspire relevant people to initiate further business development activities.”

Outlook…

“As the global air cargo sector continuously shows healthy growth rates, I am quite confident that this overall trend will sustain at the beginning of next year. However, as Germany’s largest express hub and Europe’s number five cargo airport we will for sure benefit from the ongoing solid development in the Asia Pacific region. In contrast to many other European airports, we offer growth potential in the medium and long term perspective. In addition, I see potential in further increasing our activities within niche markets such as freight charter traffic and the handling of heavy-duty and oversized shipments, large animals and perishables.”
