SriLankan Airlines has taken delivery of its first of seven A330-300s on order. The aircraft joins the airlines’ existing all-Airbus fleet of A320, A321, A330- 200 and A340-300 aircraft. SriLankan will also become the first carrier in Asia to operate the A350-900 when it takes delivery of the first of six A350s in 2015.
The airline commenced non-stop operations to London with the acquisition of their first A330-300 in November. According to Nishantha Wickramasinghe, chairman of SriLankan Airlines, these acquisitions will strengthen the carrier’s long-haul operations to Tokyo, London, Europe and China. “This is not end of the story for us. We will continue with more acquisitions,” Wickremasinghe said.
