The HNA Group has announced thatits new subsidiary, Urumqi Airlines isset to launch its maiden operations inAugust. The carrier is a 70/30 venturebetween Hainan Airlines and theUrumqi Urban Construction InvestmentCo. with start-up capital amountingto CNY3billion (US$483 million). Theairline recently secured its Air OperatorsCertificate from the Civil AviationAdministration of China (CAAC) andwill likely operate a fleet of B737s initiallyto the Xinjiang Uygur AutonomousRegion, situated in the northwest ofChina. The start-up is one of severaljoint ventures HNA has establishedwith local firms, which, among others,includes Capital Airlines (BeijingCapital), West Air (Chongqing), LuckyAir (Dali City), Fuzhou Airlines, GuilinAirlines and Tianjin Airlines.
