The board of Italy’s debt-riddledairline Alitalia has voted to accept EtihadAirways’ offer to invest in the companywith the Italian carrier’s chief executivesaying he would move quickly to concludethe tie-up. “Today the Etihad plan wasapproved and the board delegated myselfand the chairman to study and rapidlycome up with a draft of the final contract,”CEO Gabriele Del Torchio said in mid-June. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad says it iswilling to invest up to €1.25 billion overthe next four years, according to Italy’stransport minister.
