Finnair Cargo transported 35,220 tonnes of freight and mail during the first quarter of 2014, which is 9.9 per cent more than same quarter last year. Sold freight revenue tonne kilometres (FTK) grew 6.9 per cent against capacity growth (F-ATK, available tonne km for freight) of 2.2 per cent, which led to load factor increase to 64.7 per cent.
“We had very strong demand on our Japanese routes, as well as on North Atlantic services during the first quarter. The new Brussels cargo hub for Finnair Cargo, opened in April 2013, continued to deliver positive contribution to our Asian network, with cargo tonnage growth in Germany (accumulated 12 months) up 20 per cent and up 252 per cent in Belgium.
We see positive signals in volume development across many key markets, but yields remain under pressure”, said Juha Järvinen, MD, Finnair Cargo. Finnair Cargo added a 3rd weekly MD11 freighter service to Hanoi and Hong Kong as of 2 April, as well as reopened seasonal A330 service to Xi’an in Central China in late March. This summer 2014 , Finnair Cargo offers 182 weekly flights between Europe and Asia, linking 13 Asian cities over the Northern Silk Road to Europe via its Helsinki and Brussels cargo hubs.
