Atran Airlines has contracted Fokker Services in the Netherlands to upgrade its B737-400SF freighter with the latest version of the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). The upgrade ensures Atran continues to operate in full compliance with the requirements of Eurocontrol, the international organisation composed of Member States of the E.U. that oversees air traffic management. Atran is investing in the upgrading of its TCAS system from version 7.0 to 7.1 in accordance with the new European Commission mandate effective from December 2015.

The Traffic Collision Avoidance System monitors the airspace around an aircraft for other aircraft equipped with a corresponding active transponder which may present a threat of mid-air collision. The new 7.1 version is reportedly able to implement corrective action in the case of one of the crews not adhering to the TCAS recommendations.
