Ground and cargo ser vi ces provider Swissport International has announced its operating results for 2013, reporting total revenue of CHF2.1 billion (US$2.4 billion) for the year, an 11 per cent increase compared to 2012.

In 2013, aircraft turnaround frequencies increased 7.5 per cent and air freight tonnage a whopping 18.4 per cent, reflecting growth from acquisitions as well as some recovery of the air freight market in 2013 compared to 2012.

The main contributors to Swissport’s growth were the full year impact of the Flightcare acquisition that was completed in September 2012, as well as new contract wins, offset by negative foreign exchange impacts and certain contract losses market share. Significant contracts and renewals were undertaken with Air Berlin, Etihad Cargo and Germanwings.

Swissport’s take-over of the majority stake in InterAirport Services in Costa Rica, the agreement with Service-VS for Vnukovo Airport and the acquisition of a 10 per cent stake in SAS’s three Scandinavian ground handling companies all contributed to Swissport’s increasing revenues. The closing of the acquisition of Servisair was not included in the 2013 results.
