Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has delivered the first of two MD82/83SF freighters to Aeronaves TSM based in Saltillo, Coahuila México. The aircraft is a high gross weight MD82SF built in 1987 and was converted at Commercial Jet’s Miami facility, which is one of five authorised AEI Conversion Centers worldwide. This is AEI’s 3rd of an anticipated 30+ freighters to be delivered in 2014.
Subsequently Aeronaves ordered one more AEI MD80SF passenger-to-freighter conversion and the aircraft will be modified at Commercial Jet’s Miami Florida facility starting in July 2014. This order will bring Aeronaves TSM’s MD80SF freighter fleet to three, with two AEI MD82SF’s and one AEI MD83SF.
AEI emphasised that, compared to the 737-400F, the MD80SF offers comparable volume and payload capability at a much lower direct operating cost per trip.
This makes the AEI MD80SF the most economic narrow body freighter currently available on the market today.
Robert T. Convey, VP of sales & marketing for AEI said: “The entire AEI team is extremely proud to deliver the first of two MD80SF’s to Aeronaves TSM in support of their growing operations in the Americas.”
Meanwhile, AEI has also announced that Sideral Air Cargo has ordered two more AEI B737-400SF P2F conversions. The first aircraft is a high gross weight B737-400 and will be modified at Commercial Jet Services starting in June 2014. This order brings Sideral Air Cargo’s freighter fleet to five, with one AEI B737-300SF and four AEI B737-400SF’s.
