LUG air cargo handling has signed a service contract with Delta Cargo, the freight department of the US carrier Delta Air Lines, for Munich’s Franz Josef Strauss airport effective 16 January 2014. The ground handler will look after all freight for Delta’s daily passenger services, as well as road feeder traffic in Munich. Delta Cargo is a member of the SkyTeam Cargo Alliance that also includes LUG clients China Southern Cargo, Czech Airlines Cargo, and Korean Air Cargo.

“Our station in Munich has developed very dynamically since it has been opened in July 2008,” said Patrik Tschirch, MD and COO, LUG air cargo handling GmbH. “Our client portfolio includes well-known carriers such as Air Canada, ANA, SAA, and US Airways. In 2013, we added Rossiya Russian Airlines and Czech Airlines. And now we have been selected to serve Delta Cargo too. This fills us with great pride.”

“I am happy to say that we are taking another big step forward towards our strategic goal of a geographically well balanced customer portfolio with Delta Cargo. Delta serves Munich with Boeing 767-400ER and will add some 5,000 tonnes to our annual throughput”, added Nina Hampel, manager sales and customer service, LUG air cargo handling GmbH.
