Modest growth expected for air cargo market

Global air freight volumes showed a slow but steady improvement throughout last year with a moderate growth of 1.4 per cent thanks to a pick-up in global trade growth and business confidence.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) latest figures point to a moderate improvement over the next five years. According to IATA, in 2013 there was year-on-year growth of 1.4 per cent across the world, measured in freight tonne kilometres. Demand picked up in the latter half of the year, but there was still much left to be desired in terms of improvement. Its reported that capacity grew faster than demand at 2.6 per cent and load factors were weak at 45.3 per cent.
