China Southern Airlines had formed a new codeshare partnership with  Kenya Airways that will extend its ‘Canton Route’ to Africa. Designed to challenge the traditional ‘Kangaroo Route’ operators flying between Australia and Europe, the Canton Route connects these two continents via China Southern’s home base at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
The arrangement will see China Southern place its ‘CZ’ code on Kenya Airways’ flights from Guangzhou to Nairobi, and then onwards from the Kenyan capital to the Zambian capital Lusaka, Johannesburg in South Africa and Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos using brand new B777-300ER aircraft. China Southern and Kenya Airways are partners in the SkyTeam alliance.
“This modern day Silk Road between China and Africa will continue to put China Southern on the world map and build Guangzhou as a global hub,” said China Southern’s regional general manager for Australia & New Zealand, Henry He.
