Emirates the biggest cargo carrier according to IATA report
Emirates the biggest combination carrier amidst suffering air freight markets that has been punctuated by shrinking demand, falling utilization and lower yields.
July 18, 2013
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released the 57th Edition of the World Air Transport Statistics (WATS). For the air cargo industry, the report did not look too good with air freight markets suffering another difficult year punctuated by shrinking demand, falling utilization and lower yields. Global freight tonne kilometers decreased by 1.1 per cent compared to 2011 but still represented an estimated $6.4 trillion of goods by value.
Also in the report were the top five airlines which were ranked by total scheduled freight tonnes carried. They were FedEx (6.9 million), UPS Airlines (4.6 million), Emirates (2.0 million), Korean Air (1.5 million) and Cathay Pacific Airways (1.4 million). This essentially makes Emirates the biggest combination air cargo carrier in the world.
