Indian Service Tax Department wants to impound aircraft

email Kingfisher Airlines revival plan Service Tax Department summer Vijay Mallya

Beleagured liquor baron Vijay Mallya has sent out an email to employees of his Kingfisher Airlines that the carrier would start flying once again in summer this year. Even as his note was being read, the Service Tax Department sent out a notice that it would impound all the Kingfisher aircraft.

According to the notice, the aircraft cannot be flown outside the airports where they are parked. The airline owes $34.6 million to the service tax department. Kingfisher’s operating certificate expired on December 31, 2012 after the management failed to come up with a firm revival plan.
