DHL to benefit from UPS-TNT failed merger

The express major will strengthen its position in Europe

confidence of customers DHL express unit Frank Appel market share standalone strategy UPS-TNT merger

The failed UPS-TNT merger augurs well for DHL, according to Deutsche Post’s chief executive Frank Appel. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Appel said Deutsche Post wanted “to further gain market share with its express unit like in the past two years”. He also said that the merger talks between UPS and TNT had shaken the confidence of customers with some of them turning to DHL. DHL would strengthen its position in Europe and “TNT will now have to find a standalone strategy”, said Appel.
