The traffic results for November 2012 released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) show an improvement in air freight demand. Air freight volumes edged up 1.6 per cent over the same period after declining 2.6 per cent in October 2012, year to year leading IATA chief executive Tony Tyler to comment that November had brought some positive signs for air transport demand — particularly for air cargo. Much of the air freight traffic rose due to online shopping demand. Tyler, however, was cautious and said that it was “premature to consider this a turning point for air cargo markets in terms of bouncing back and regaining lost ground”.
