US president Barack Obama signed a bill that would “prohibit” US carriers from participating in the European Union’s (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The law states that the US transportation secretary can stop US carriers from participating in the EU ETS if doing so would be “in the public interest,” and if it impacted “US consumers, US carriers and US operators”.
