While the “operating environment for Asia Pacific carriers remained quite challenging”, preliminary traffic figures for the month of September from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) showed stable air cargo demand and a moderate growth in international passenger traffic – 4 per cent more than the same month last year.

International air cargo demand for Asia Pacific airlines, as measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTK), was 0.4 per cent below last year’s level, an improvement on the generally negative trend seen this year. Offered freight capacity was reduced by 4.3 per cent, leading to a 2.6 percentage point increase in the average international air cargo load factor to 66.6 per cent.
